Driveway placements need no permit; street placements do — and the office changes by town. Here is the map.

Whether you need a permit for a dumpster in the Kenosha area comes down to one question: where is the container going to sit? On your own driveway or property, the answer is almost always no. In a public street or right-of-way, the answer is usually yes — and who issues the permit changes from town to town.
A roll-off on your private driveway or land needs no municipal permit anywhere in the service area. Check your HOA rules if you have one, and we will put boards under the rails to protect the surface, but the city or village is not involved.
If the container has to sit in a public street or the right-of-way in Kenosha, the City of Kenosha requires a public right-of-way occupation permit, with an application fee around $50. Placing one there without a permit can draw a fine of up to $500 per day, and the City can have the container removed at your expense. Apply through the City before delivery, and mark the container with reflectors or cones as required.
Each incorporated village — Pleasant Prairie, Somers, Salem Lakes, Twin Lakes, Bristol, Paddock Lake — runs its own right-of-way permitting, so a street placement there goes through that village, not the City of Kenosha. In the rural civil towns (Brighton, Paris, Randall, Wheatland), many roads are county-maintained, so a public-road placement can require a Kenosha County Highway Department permit, typically in the $75-$150 range.
Cross the county line into Racine, Mount Pleasant, Sturtevant or Union Grove and you are under a different county's government entirely — each of those municipalities permits its own street placements. We will point you to the right office when you book.
Most homeowners avoid the whole question by keeping the container on the driveway. When a street placement is genuinely necessary, call us first — we deal with these jurisdictions every week and will tell you exactly which office to contact. Call (262) 300-5776.

Not on your own driveway. For a public street or right-of-way placement in the City of Kenosha you need a right-of-way occupation permit (about a $50 fee); without one the fine can reach $500 per day.
Each village (Pleasant Prairie, Somers, Salem Lakes, Twin Lakes, Bristol, Paddock Lake) permits its own streets. In the rural towns, county roads route to the Kenosha County Highway Department.
Those are in Racine County — a different county government — and each municipality permits its own street placements. Your own driveway still needs no permit.
